Shoe leather production increases
According to the latest data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan’s shoe industry is performing well as production of both upper and sole leather continues to improve.
Upper leather production increased 1.688 million m2 in October last year, 5.37% higher than the 1.602 million m2 produced in the same month of 2006; while sole production also improved, rising 11.11% to reach ten tons in the same period.
Finished footwear production also rose, with the country producing 1.857 million pairs, 1.25% higher than the 1.834 million pairs manufactured in October 2006.
However, the industry will have to wait and see the effect that the current political turmoil and the disruption to exports will have on the industry in the coming months.
