Footwear could flourish
18/12/2007
Footwear production is one of the sectors on which the World Trade Organisation's newest proposed member, Cape Verde, should concentrate, according to assistant US trade representative, Florie Liser.
Ms Liser visited the African country last week and said that, along with salt, footwear could become one of Cape Verde's principal exports to the US and that WTO membership would make it easier for producers there to gain access to US consumers.
The Cape Verde government expects the General Council of the WTO to ratify its proposed membership at a meeting today. The country would then formally become a WTO member before June 2008.
