Spain's main research and development centre for footwear, the Footwear Technology Institute at Elda in the province of Alicante, formally opened its new expanded facilities today.

A 2,000 square-metre extension to the existing site, where technicians carry out testing on shoes and their components on behalf of footwear manufacturers in the local area, is now in operation.

The site also has a recycling plant to allow it to use waste material and extensive renewable energy capabilities through solar cells.
