Spain's footwear industry association, FICE, has invited more of the country's producers to try to win increased business in Russia.

The organisation is coordinating the attendance of Spanish brands at Moscow's Obuv-Mir Kozhi exhibition, which will run from April 22–25 next year. Spanish companies have until January 10 to inform FICE of their interest.

The association said on announcing the initiative today that increasing Spanish footwear exports to Russia would be one of its priorities for 2008. Russia is already a top-20 export market for Spanish footwear brands, with figures for the first nine months of 2007 exceeding 700,000 pairs of shoes and a value of €22 million.

According to FICE, the most important statistic to have come out of the analysis it has done of the Russian market is that the average price Spanish producers can secure for their shoes there is €31 per pair, higher than any of the other principal markets.
