US-based rubber manufacturer The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has formed a new strategic business unit through which all of the company’s European Union (EU) and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) operations will be combined.

The new region of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), which will be headed by Arthur de Bok, formerly president, EU, will be Goodyear’s largest in terms of geography and second only to North America in terms of annual sales revenue.

Commenting on the move, chairman and chief executive Robert Keegan said: "While the two former regions are different in terms of approach to the market there are also many similarities which are increasing, especially with the introduction of the new EU member states. This new organisation is structured to accelerate growth and maximise earnings through simplicity, speed and an intense focus on our customers and markets."

Goodyear employs about 70,000 people worldwide and manufactures shoe soles, rubber hoses, tyres and parts for electric printers.
