Footwear production falls 21%

10/12/2007

According to figures released by the Central Statistical Bureau, Latvia’s overall industrial production output fell by 1.6% in October and while this may be a significant decline it pales into insignificance compared with the slump in the country’s footwear production year-on-year.

The leather and footwear manufacturing sectors posted a worrying 21% drop in output compared with October 2006 and although no reasons were cited for this fall, it may be relevant that electricity, gas and water output increased 15.4% during the same period.
