New anti-dumping complaint filed
Just two weeks after the lifting of a prior anti-dumping ruling, Chinese and Vietnamese footwear manufacturers are facing renewed restrictions on imports of waterproof rubber footwear into Canada.
The Canadian Shoe Manufacturers Association (SMAC) has filed a complaint with the Anti-Dumping Directorate of the Canada Border Services Agency requesting that it re-impose dumping duties on waterproof rubber footwear from China, Vietnam and Macao.
Commenting on the action, SMAC president George Hanna said: "Rubber footwear from these countries accounts for more than $200 million in sales a year in Canada. It's imperative that the injury finding on waterproof rubber footwear that expired almost two weeks ago be reinstated immediately. Canadian manufacturers can't compete fairly when the largest shoe manufacturers in the world sell their products well below their fair market value.”
