Online retailer posts record visitors on “Cyber Monday”

US online footwear retailer ShoeBuy.com has reported record levels of visitors on “Cyber Monday”, the first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday which is often seen as the start of the online holiday shopping season.

Traffic on the site hit record levels, improving 80% compared with the same day last year and resulting in more than a quarter of a million people visiting the site.

“While Cyber Monday was certainly a successful day for us, we’re expecting this momentum to continue to escalate until mid-December,” said Scott Savitz, chief executive. “Consumers have only just begun their holiday shopping.”

Shoebuy.com retails more than 500,000 products from brands including adidas, Aerosoles, Allen-Edmonds, Bostonian, Brooks, Clarks England, Dockers, Donald J Pliner, Dr Martens, Easy Spirit, Fila, Florsheim, Franco Sarto, Hush Puppies, Johnston & Murphy, K-Swiss, Keds, Mephisto, Merrell, Mezlan, New Balance, Reebok, Rockport, Sebago, Skechers, Sperry Top-Sider, Stride Rite, Stuart Weitzman, Timberland, and Tommy Hilfiger. It also sells handbags, backpacks, luggage, baby gear, briefcases and laptop bags.
