Indian minister welcomes German SME investment

Indian minister for commerce and industry, Shri Kamal Nath, has welcomed recent interest from small- and medium-sized German companies seeking investment opportunities in India.

He was visited by chief minister of the German Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein, Peter Harry Carstensen, who reportedly expressed keen interest in enhancing bilateral relations between his state and India. Other Indian and German senior officials were present at the meeting.

Trade with Germany has increased over the past three years, rising from $6.8 billion in 2004-05 to $9.6 billion in 2005-06. In 2006-07, trade revenues jumped to $16.7 billion. Main export items include leather footwear, machinery , pharmaceuticals and electronic goods.
