Sportswear manufacturer Puma AG has kicked off construction of its new eco-friendly Puma Plaza headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

The new 538,000 sq. ft. premises will be the base for approximately 700 employees and will function as the company’s administration centre for central Europe, a brand centre, a new retail concept and a factory outlet store. Reports indicate that the roof of the outlet store will feature more than 10,000 sq. ft. of photovoltaic solar cells, with 1,500 sq. ft. more cells in the window front. The top of Puma Plaza will feature 16,000 sq. ft. of cells.

The site should be completed in 2009 and is likely to cost $73.3 million.
Chairman and CEO, Jochen Zeitz, said: “Puma Plaza will not only strengthen our brand visibility but will also extend our position in Herzogenaurach.”
