Project to help indigenous diabetes sufferers

29/10/2007

Reports indicate that around 350 pairs of brand new shoes are to be sent to indigenous communities in northern Queensland as part of a programme to treat the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.

The joint initiative, organised by Diabetes Australia Queensland and the Brisbane Broncos, will send 350 pairs of Nike sandals to the Aurukun, Kowanyama, Pormpuraaw, Coen and Lockhart River areas.

The condition can cause painful foot ulcers and sores, and can even lead to amputations.
