Profit jumps 56% at Bata India
Footwear retailer Bata India Ltd, has posted a 56.3% increase in net profit for its third quarter compared with the third quarter of 2006. Profit totalled Rs9.5 crore ($2.4 million), during the quarter compared with Rs6.1 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Turnover was Rs206.6 crore, up 15.7% over the Rs178.6 crore reported in the prior-year period.
These improvements have been attributed to its aggressive growth strategy, which includes opening stores seven days a week. As a result, sales were up 15.7%. The company plans to open 200 new stores in the next few years.
