Malaysian footwear prices rise in September

According to Malaysia’s statistics department, its consumer price index for September rose 1.8% to 106 compared with 104.1 posted in September 2006.

Footwear and clothing prices, up 0.8%, showed the highest increase year-on-year.

However, for the January to September period, footwear and clothing were one of only two sectors that witnessed a decline, falling 1.5% compared with the prior-year period. Despite this, the CPI rose more than 2% overall from 103.3 in the 2006 period to 105.4 for January to September 2007.
