The EU’s Anti-Fraud Office, OLAF, has uncovered a wide scale fraud scheme involving imports of footwear and textiles from China in collaboration with Austrian authorities.

A group of Chinese, Hungarian and Austrian fraudsters were reportedly involved in the smuggling operation, which carried large quantities of shoes and textiles form China into the EU using undervalued and false invoices.

Footwear items included sports and casual shoes, while clothing included jeans and t-shirts. According to OLAF, this type of fraud is "a Europe-wide phenomenon”.
