Footwear and clothing lead Eurozone sales
The footwear and clothing sector saw by far the highest level of growth in September according to the Bloomberg Eurozone Retail Purchasing Managers' Index. Sales for the sector were boosted by milder weather and the increase was the third largest in the history of the survey.
Of the three countries covered – Italy, France and Germany – French sales showed the strongest with month-on-month growth hitting a five-month high. The index increased from 51.1 in August to 54.2 in September.
Overall, the index was 50.5, slightly lower than the August index, which reached 51.
