Reebok incorporates DuraForm Flex Plastic

10/10/2007

Reebok is to use 3D Systems' DuraForm Flex Plastic to make prototypes of its footwear, sandals and athletic equipment.

The thermoplastic elastomer material is said to be flexible and soft, yet tear-resistant and durable. The company has found it easy to process as, unlike earlier generation materials, it directly produces durable parts. Secondary infiltration is optional, but users can add colour, improve burst strength and create a water-tight barrier. Five colours are available – black, red, yellow, blue and natural – and these can be mixed to create customised colours.

Parts built from the material can also withstand repeated bending and flexing as well as harsh functional testing.
