Footwear sales bolster UK retail results
Despite recent uncertainty in the financial markets, UK high streets sales grew in September to the highest levels since June, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
Experts have cited cooler weather as one of the major contributing factor to this increase, with people shopping for autumn and winter footwear and apparel one of the main growth drivers. Price promotions also boosted sales figures.
Like-for-like retail sales rose 3% in September, up from the 1.8% rise posted in August.
Despite this, the current ‘credit crunch’ climate suggests that future sales could be hit hard, and the period leading up to Christmas will show just how much recent events will impact upon the retail sector.
