A group of academics from the University of Northampton, led by its vice chancellor, Ann Tate, recently visited various parts of China as part of a ‘Northamptonshire awareness raising’ exercise with Chinese businesses and other universities.

The trip included a visit to the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai, as well as networking appointments in Beijing, Hangzhou and Zhenjiang City.

“The All China Leather Exhibition is one of the world’s largest shows for the sector and being present allowed us to meet with many major international leather processing and accessory manufacturing companies,” said Ms Tate.

She added that these companies included BASF, Stahl and Decision Chemicals who she said, “along with numerous international footwear businesses, were very interested in the University’s unique leather technology research and teaching capabilities.”

An alumni reception for former Northampton graduates, media, university partners and trade representatives also took place in Beijing with more than 100 former students attending.

According to Ms Tate, the majority of the University’s alumni in China studied business or leather technology Northampton.
