Huntsman Polyurethanes addresses European footwear decline
Huntsman Polyurethanes has expanded its technical services team and is to increase investment in research and development to boost its European footwear operations. The investment, which goes against wider industry trends, will offer support to European footwear manufacturers of quality footwear.
Commercial director EAME and India sub-continent, Johan Van Tongelen, said: “The European footwear market has been in decline over the past ten years, predominantly triggered by the emerging Asian markets. This has led some companies to shift assets away from Europe.”
“Our investment will aim to re-dress this balance and provide vital services and core products for European footwear manufacturers, demonstrating our commitment to customers in this sector,” he added.
The company has added to its Germany-based technical services team, which offers support for new and existing customers in Europe. It has also provided new equipment for its research and development facility in Everberg, Belgium.
Commercial manager footwear, EAME & ISC, Alfons Tremml, said: “While our competitors are reducing their operations, we are making this investment to ensure European footwear manufacturers continue to receive the service and support they need to produce high quality footwear.”
