A record number of trade professionals attended this year’s MICAM ShoEvent, which was held in Milan from September 20-23. Visitor attendance was up 4.8% compared with last year’s event to 46,313 as people travelled to view new spring/summer 2008 collections.

The number of foreign buyers was up 5.1% to 22,623, with visitors from Japan, Germany, Spain, France, Russia and the UK the most prevalent. Italian visitor participation was also higher, up 4.6% to 23,690.

Elegant, streamlined heels were prominent among women’s lines and ballet pumps continued to be a major feature. There were also a lot of sandals; both Fifties cocktail styles and jewelled, slashed wedges. Leathers were soft and glossy, featuring bold colours and high-impact accessories.

For men, moccasins and laced shoes made from high-quality leathers were on show, having been given a sporty, casual look.
