NPD highlights higher global athletic footwear sales

A second survey on the global sports market from consumer and retail information provider The NPD Group, Inc. shows that global footwear sales increased 3% in 2006, mainly fuelled by higher sales in the US and Europe.

According to industry analyst for the company Renaud Vaschalde, “Europeans and Asians will begin to adopt the sport or sport-style shoes as part of their everyday dress and help to drive growth.”

Overall growth for the sporting goods sector was 4% compared with 2005 figures, with sales totalling $256 billion.
