Jourdan files for bankruptcy

Luxury footwear and accessories brand Charles Jourdan has filed for the French equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to industry sources.
The firm’s factory in France’s footwear hub, Romans-sur-Isère, which employs 214 people is reported to have lain dormant for the past few weeks.
A spokesperson for Charles Jourdan said the company still planned to continue, perhaps by contracting out some of its production activity. The same spokesperson told Le Figaro that it would take a further six months for the group to be able to put this plan into effect and that, in the meantime, the salaries of all 214 workers were guaranteed, “even though we believe we need no more than 130”.
