Footwear producers urged to diversify to keep growth going

Vietnam’s footwear export revenues for the first eight months of the year are more than $2.7 billion, a rise of 14.3% against the same period last year.
In August alone, the country earned $390 million from footwear exports, mainly to the European Union, the United States and Japan.
The source of these figures the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso).
Vietnam is likely to make footwear export earnings of around $4 billion for the full year, up from nearly $3.6 billion in 2006.
Lefaso says it is encouraging footwear producers in Vietnam to diversify the products they manufacture to keep growth levels high. Specifically, it is asking them to produce more athletic footwear and textile-based shoes, and slippers.
Vietnam has planned for footwear export revenue to reach $6.5 billion dollars in 2010.
