Exports increase as producers get product-mix right

The Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE) has confirmed its export figures to the US market for 2006.

The US, the largest market in the world for shoes, imported 5 million pairs from Spain last year, and paid €158 million for the privilege.

The average price per pair, wholesale, was €31 per pair, a figure that FICE regards as extremely positive. A spokesperson for the organisation said on releasing the figures: "This shoes that we are now exporting the right kind of product to the US market."

The health per-pair price also means that, although the US is the sixth biggest export market for Spanish footwear producers in terms of volume, it's the fourth biggest in value.

The 2006 value of exports to the US is 6% higher than the corresponding figure for 2005.
