Leather footwear exports grow in spite of EU measures

Vietnam exported leather footwear worth $2.366 billion during first seven months of current financial year (January-July 2007) compared to $ 2.087 billion in the same period last year. This represents growth of 13.37%, according to data released by the government's General Statistics Office.

For July 2007 alone, Vietnam footwear exports reached $410 million against $340 million in corresponding month last year.

Vietnam also exported handbags, wallets, suitcases and umbrellas worth $375 million during the first seven month of current financial year (January-July 2007) from $301 million of same period last year—growth of 24.58%.
The total leather sector exports stood at $2.74 billion compared to $2.39 billion in the corresponding period last year.

The total exports of Vietnam including leather stood at $26.790 billion against $22.338 billion in Jan-July 2006.
