Leonardo 'invented high heels'
30/08/2007
A UK-based footwear retailer, Shoe Express, has claimed that high heels were among the many inventions of Leonardo da Vinci.
The company said Leonardo came up with the idea in 1507 and, therefore, that this year marks the 500th anniversary of the invention.
To celebrate this, it arranged for model Jessica Proudfoot to walk up and down London's Oxford Street for ten minutes wearing shoes with a 30-centimetre heel in a design typical of the sixteenth century.
Shoe Express was also celebrating its own fifteenth anniversary.
