Amazonas Group appoints new president

Antônio Britto, ex-governor of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and former president of footwear brand Calçados Azaléia, has been appointed president of the board of directors of the Amazonas Group, part of Franca, the main men's shoe manufacturing cluster in Brazil.

 Mr. Britto will be in charge of restructuring the company and professionalising its management and is selecting 'heavy-weight' executives from around the world to help him in the process.

Founded in 1947, Amazonas is the largest soling manufacturer and supplier in Brazil. The group is formed by 15 companies located in the states of Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Bahia, Ceara and Paraiba as well as Uruguay, and a transport company. Amazonas, which produces soles, soling material sheets, adhesives and other shoe components, employs approximately 3,000 people.
