According to Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics, the footwear sector achieved 10.1% growth in May to reach $10.7 million from $9.7 million in May 2006. However, year-to-date figures are still causing concern as footwear exports for the first 11 months (July 2006 to May 2007) fell 19.7% to13.9 million pairs worth $105.101 million compared with 19.7 million pairs worth $130.9 million in the same prior-year period. Exports for the 11 months comprised $89.184 million worth of leather footwear, $1.9 million of canvas footwear and $14 million worth of other footwear.
