Indian footwear exports surge

According to figures released by the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry,
leather footwear exports increased 20.23% in the first nine months of the current fiscal year (April-December 2006) to reach $665.91 million from $553.87 million in the corresponding period a year earlier. Non-leather footwear also improved, with exports climbing 11.83% to $42.94 million from $38.4 million.

Meanwhile, exports of footwear components reached $163.89 million from $132.64 million, a rise of 23.55% year-on-year.
