Brazil’s Grendene begins shipments to Algeria

Despite continued reports of declining Brazilian footwear exports, it appears that one manufacturer is going against the general trend.

According to a report from the Brazil Arab News Agency (ANBA), Brazilian manufacturer of PVC footwear Grendene is expanding its export markets and has just shipped its first consignment to Algeria, consisting of 15,000 pairs of men's, women's, and children's sandals. Another two containers are set to follow soon.

According to Grendene’s agent in Algeria, PVC sandals are well-suited for the high temperatures in Algeria, which can reach 40°C in the summer.

The company already has a strong presence in the Middle East and Africa, having begun exporting to Syria last year and planning to enter the Sudanese market this year.

Last year, Grendene exported 30 million pairs of shoes (20% of the company's production) to 85 countries, of which 1.2 million pairs were shipped to Arab countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon.
