Jibbitz wins intellectual property infringement case
The wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based footwear designer and manufacturer Crocs, Jibbitz LLC, has been awarded damages of $1.8 million as a result of a Federal copyright and trademark infringement case brought against Joinworld Industrial & Trading Limited and its principals.
The United States District Court, District of Nevada found that Jibbitz owns all right, title and interest in its shoe charm designs, including all copyright rights therein, and deemed that the served defendants had a history of infringing on Jibbitz copyrighted works, including offering more than 60 infringing copies of certain copyrighted works for sale.
Crocs acquired Jibbitz, which produces colourful snap-on accessories suited specifically for Crocs shoes, in 2006.
