‘Soul of Africa’ a success for The Clarks Companies

19/04/2007

Footwear group The Clarks Companies has celebrated the fourth year of its ‘Soul of Africa’ initiative, which aims to secure funds for
South Africa’s AIDS orphans. The company’s initiative combines sustainable development and raises money to assist organisations that house, feed and educate orphans through the sale of moccasin shoes.

The shoes are hand-stitched by unemployed women from KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, who are both earning a living and learning new skills. Almost 35% of the population in KwaZulu-Natal has the infection.

Since 2003, Soul of Africa has raised almost $1 million.
