New Bayflex footwear collection presented at Simac

The Bayflex footwear range from Bayer MaterialScience AG has been presented for the first time at the current 2007 Simac footwear fair.

Three ranges on offer are Bayflex Safety, Bayflex Active, and Bayflex Fashion.
Sole densities range from 200 kg/m
³ for super lightweight insoles up to 1,200 kg/m³
for solid soles with a tread. One application is systems for low-density midsoles, which allow weight savings of around 20% to 25% over conventional soles yet offer both elasticity and energy absorption.

Polyurethanes are also used in a new class of polyester-based materials characterised by their high resistance to hydrolysis. This enables soles with a long service life to be produced.

Bayer MaterialScience is also highlighting its environmental awareness with the introduction of its new ECO-xpand technology, which makes it unnecessary to use halogenated blowing agents and tin compounds in formulations for producing polyurethane soles. The Easy Release system, whose special formulation reduces the amount of release agent needed in the mould, is another example.
