Q4 and 2006 sales increases at Brown Shoe

US-based footwear company Brown Shoe Company, Inc. has reported improved results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended February 3.

Net sales increased 6.6% to $639.3 million compared with $599.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2006 and net earnings increased slightly to $13.6 million from $13.4 million in the prior year quarter.

Net sales for 2006 increased 7.8% to $2.47 billion compared with $2.29 billion in 2005 while net earnings jumped to $65.7 million from $41 million the previous year.

In the Retail Division, total sales at the Famous Footwear chain increased 13% to $320.9 million compared with $284.1 million for the 13-week period in 2005.

The Specialty Retail segment, which primarily includes the Naturalizer Retail stores and the Shoes.com e-commerce business, reported sales of $73.9 millionan increase of 12.4% compared with the $65.7 million posted in the prior year.

Wholesale sales declined 2.1% to $244.5 million compared with $249.8 million a year earlier as higher sales at Naturalizer, Dr. Scholl's, LifeStride and Children's offerings were offset by lower sales at the company's Brown New York brands.

 

Guidance for full year 2007 has been set between $2.48 billion and $2.52 billion and for the first quarter of 2007 the company expects net sales to be in the range of $575 million to $580 million.
