Abicalçados appoints new president

The Brazilian Association of Footwear Manufacturers (Abicalçados) has appointed Milton Cardoso as its new president. With 20 years experience in the footwear industry Mr Cardoso is director of Vulcabrás do Nordeste, based in Jundiaí, São Paulo. 

Speaking of his plans for his tenure, he said that his long-term goal is to achieve the removal of taxes on export products, interest rates that are compatible with international transactions, and more flexible labour rules. In the meantime, he would like to see an industrial policy that promotes the creation of jobs and wealth for the country and measures to improve Brazil’s international competitiveness, including a change in the currency exchange policy, in order to promote exports.
