According to China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), Liaoning Province—the largest shoe production area in Northeast China—exported 36.83 million pairs of domestic brand shoes and 14.48 million pairs of foreign licensed brand footwear in 2006a slight increase over the 2005 figures.

Asia, North America and Europe remained the three largest import markets for footwear produced in the province; however, there was a marked increase in the percentage of footwear sold within Asia. Exports to Asian markets increased 10.9% with Japan leading the field, importing shoes worth over $60 million, followed by Korea which imported shoes valued at $32.63 million.

Meanwhile, exports to Europe fell 18% due to the EU duties imposed on Chinese shoes.
