Keen wins Outdoor Industry Award

06/02/2007

Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) recently presented its 2007 awards at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City before an audience of 500 attendees.

President of Keen Footwear Kirk Richardson was presented with the Outdoor Industry Innovator Award, which recognises continued innovation and growth of the outdoor industry. Under Mr Richardson’s leadership, Keen Footwear has experienced positive growth thanks to both its footwear designs and its social responsibility policies. The company has focused on reducing its effect on the environment through initiatives such as using recycled packaging materials and supporting humanitarian causes.

Atlas Snow-Shoe Company was presented with the Outdoor Industry Ambassador Award which is bestowed upon companies the OIA believes to have made significant and sustainable achievements toward the growth of participation in outdoor activities. Since 2001, the company’s Explore Winter Women’s Workshop Programme has introduced women to the benefits of snowshoeing. Now in its fifth season, the programme has expanded from three US states to 17, and has reached more than 8,000 women with its in-store seminar and on-snow hikes.
