Mixed results for Pakistan footwear sector

Although
Pakistan’s footwear sector posted a significant increase in month-on-month exports for December, it has reported a substantial decline in year-on-year exports. The country exported footwear worth $14.699 million in December compared with $6.735 million in November—a rise of 118.25% month-on-month.

However, the six-month period from July to December revealed a negative trend.
Pakistan exported 6.993 million pairs of footwear worth $56.722 million during the second half of 2006
which included $49.15 million worth of leather
footwear, $1.537 million of canvas footwear and $6.035 million of other footwear.

This equates to an overall decrease of 18.16%, compared with the comparable six months in 2005, during which the footwear sector exported 8.875 million pairs worth $69.308 million.
