Chinese footwear companies sue EU over anti-dumping duties

19/01/2007

Four Chinese footwear producers have begun legal action against the European Union over the 16.5% anti-dumping duties which were imposed on footwear produced
China in October. They have also urged other Chinese companies to join them in opposing the tariffs.

Following a meeting on January 8, Aokang, Taima, Jinlu, and Xinsheng Gangyuan issued the ‘Beijing Joint Declaration of Chinese footwear Enterprises to Deal with Trade Barriers’ stating their concerns over the legality of the EU’s action and urging other companies to join their litigation suit. The companies claim that the EU did not conduct its investigation properly, having only tested ten companies from the thousands of producers that operate in China.

During the meeting footwear manufacturers were urged to fight for their rights to establish harmonious external trade relations.
