British-based shoe manufacturer Clarks has extended its agreement with NYK Logistics to act as its freight forwarding service in Asia as well as providing supply chain control and visibility.

NYK Group company Tasco is already responsible for managing Clarks’ Asia Regional Distribution Centre (ARDC) in Port Klang, Malaysia. Under the new agreement, the company will now also take responsibility for outbound volumes from the centre to stores and stockists throughout Asia and manage direct shipments of product from vendors in Asian origins to customers throughout Asia.

The ARDC was established in 2005 to provide small order and replenishment services in the Asia Pacific region. The 2,500 m² centre handles inbound shipments direct from Clarks’ vendors from origins such as Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and outbound volumes to customers throughout Asia.

Since it became operational, the ARDC has received more than 500,000 pairs of shoes and has shipped over 250,000 pairs. It expects to despatch more than 750,000 million pairs of shoes during 2007.
