The Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) has announced plans to hold the ninth Pakistan International Footwear Exhibition Juft 2007 at Hotel Pearl Continental, Lahore
, on June 23-24. The newly-formed government body, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), will support the exhibition, which was not held last year.

Commerce minister Humayun Akhtar Khan held a meeting with PFMA
representatives to discuss relevant export issues at which he expressed his approval of the
show.

PFMA also requested that support to carry out research and development, which is already being provided to the leather shoe sector, should be extended to synthetic and canvas shoes. The minister said that the proposal would be discussed at the next Export Development Fund Board meeting. The promotional plan for the footwear sector for 2007-08, which will include four delegations to other countries, was also approved at the meeting.
