Brazilian Footwear Congress to feature Retail and Industry

The format of the Brazilian Footwear Congress, organised by Couromoda, which will take place January 15-18, has been redesigned. Topics for the event have been divided into two major segments: one focusing on the retail market and the other on the industry sector.
The Retail Section, to be held on January 14 (one day prior to the Couromoda Fair), will cover issues chosen by retailers, followed by a session of open discussion and debate. The focus will be on the daily routine of footwear shops, expense and cost controls, taxes, the cost of credit and charge cards, default charges, the effects of the Simple Estadual and Federal, profit projection, price formation and mark-up, complaints, and returns and refunds to the consumer.

The Industry Section, to be held January 16, will focus on ‘The Future of the Western Footwear Industry’. Leaders in the footwear industry have been invited from
Brazil, the United States, Europe and Asia to speak on the issue. They will give an overview of the worldwide footwear market, covering topics such as competitiveness of the industry outside Asia
; the future of ‘Made In Italy’; design, quality and raw materials; and maintaining the domestic market and identifying new export niches.

Speakers will include director of Azaléia, Paulo Santana; chairman of Micam and ANCI (Association of the Italian Footwear Industry), Rossano Soldini; chairman of the French Footwear Association, François Browne de Kilmaine; chairman of São Paulo Alpargatas, Márcio Utsch; and chairman of Calçados Bibi, Marlin Kohlrausch.
