Brazilian footwear machinery exports fall
19/12/2006
The Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Leather and Footwear Machinery and Equipment (Abrameq) has reported that Brazilian exports of machinery for the leather and footwear sector fell by over 4% between January and September this year, compared with the same period in 2005. The decline has largely been attributed to the low dollar exchange rate which has caused goods to become less competitive on the international market.
Leather machinery fell by 6.41% from $2.13 million to $1.99 million, while footwear machinery fell by 3.31% from $7.02 million to $6.79 million. Overall, leather and footwear machinery exports fell by 4.03% from $9.14 million to 8.78 million.
