Shoe manufacturers in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, are forecasting an improvement in export figures in 2007.

Vice-president for Foreign Trade at the Shoe Industry Chamber of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG), Javier Plascencia, believes that shoe exports are likely to  increase next year having already posted a 4.7% increase in exports so far this year. The country has exported 7.2 billion pairs in 2006, generating a revenue of $171 million. Its main shoe export markets are the USA, Canada, Japan, Spain and Brazil. Of the total shoes exported, 65% are produced in Guanajuato.

The improvement in export figures has been largely attributed to a pilot scheme to promote Mexican-made shoes, which involves 70 of the 1,184 Guanajuato manufacturers.
