FDDI to create complete sole design curriculum

21/11/2006

India’s Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) is to create a complete ‘Sole Design’ curriculum using CAD/CAM solutions for the tool-making and manufacturing industries provider Cimatron’s CimatronE ShoeExpress.

Cimatron has signed an agreement with FDDI to develop a complete Sole Design curriculum centered on the CimatronE ShoeExpress solution.

The aim of the course is to assist students in mastering traditional sole design skills, whilst using state-of-the-art design tools.

CimatronE ShoeExpress integrates its CAD/CAM functionality with dedicated vertical applications that cover heel, sole, model and mould creation. It is said to enable the easy creation of production-ready workable moulds from computer models–bridging the gap between concept and manufacturing thus reducing the time between the concept and finished product, while still empowering designers to develop complex soles and heels, with easy on-screen pattern, colour, shape and motif alteration.

FDDI is said to be India's premier footwear training centre–providing training, HRD, design and development, testing and consultancy services to major footwear manufacturers countrywide. Headquartered in Noida, Delhi, it is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 institute, with laboratories that are ISO 17025 certified. It actively collaborates with institutions world-wide such as PFI Germany, and Thomas Bata University in the Czech Republic.
