Satra invests in new equipment
UK-based research and technology centre Satra is making major investments in additional test equipment to cope with increasing demand from retailers and manufacturers seeking fast and accurate results for assessing moisture disposal properties in footwear.
The Advanced Moisture Management (AMM) test equipment has been in constant use for members since the first unit was built two years ago. Two more have now been commissioned.
The test is designed to establish the moisture transfer properties of footwear—its breathability—using a simulated sweating foot. The moulded form contains an electrical heating element and water pipes that distribute ‘sweat’ to the surface. A realistic warm and humid environment is created when the form is fitted with a standard reference test sock and placed inside footwear. Managing moisture is a key comfort factor and therefore a major sales benefit.
The order follows additional investment that includes another slip resistance tester, complete with ice tray to assess footwear designed for wintry conditions. This brings the technology centre’s complement up to four such pieces of equipment.
