Brazilian companies make an impact at SIPIEL
16 Brazilian companies presented their latest footwear collections for the spring/summer 2007 season at Modacalzado, held in Madrid, Spain, on September 29–October 1.
They participated as part of the ‘Brazilian Footwear’ export programme, organised by Abicalçados (The Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries) and Apex Brasil (a government agency for the promotion of exports and development). The aim of attending the show was to continue to promote the presence of Brazilian footwear in the Spanish market.
Two important issues highlighted at the fair were the need to adapt prices to the international market—beginning with the Spanish and Portuguese markets—and the importance of making winter season goods as relevant as spring/summer collections.
Spain is the second largest European importer of Brazilian footwear; however, the growth in exports to Spain seen between 2003 and 2005 has begun to falter in recent months. According to figures covering the period January to June this year, Spain imported approximately four million pairs of footwear from Brazil; a decrease of 16% compared with the same period in 2005, when 4.8 million pairs were exported.
The companies that exhibited at Modacalzado were Miezko, Sapatoterapia, Kiuty, Azaléia, Bibi, Chinesinha, Ferrucci, Pampili, Siboney, Cristófoli, Gvd, Klin Worls Shoes and Suplextrade.
