Wenzhou Enterprises to build shoe production zone in Russia

According to the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), seven Wenzhou enterprises are building a joint production zone—Far East Kangji Industrial Zone—in Russia.

Reports indicate that the majority of these are large Wenzhou shoe-making enterprises including the shoe mould company Kangnai. Kangnai CEO Zheng Xiu Kang, said the total construction of the infrastructure over the next few years would exceed $252 million and the industrial zone would house more manufacturers of leather shoe uppers and other products.

CLIA reported that many shoes exported to Russia from the region in the past have been confiscated due to improper customs clearance and by moving the semi-finished shoes to the new zone in Russia for assembly could reduce the risk of confiscation in the future.
