New DuPont Hydrology system for leather tanning
DuPont has launched a new system for tanning leather called Hydrology, which is said to offer weather-resistance as well as being washable and dryable in household appliances, colourfast, breathable and stain- and soil-resistant.
Leather protected by Hydrology will soon be available for products such as coats and jackets, handbags, hats, gloves, shoes, boots, briefcases, luggage and pillows.
In flex testing, leather with Hydrology is said to achieve more than 150,000 flexes versus competitive standards of 30,000 flexes. And, when the leather is washed, it dries in half the time of competitively treated leather.
The new leather tanning system was showcased at the ACLE in
The company has already certified a number of tanneries globally to utilise the technology. The company works closely with each tannery to customise the technology to maximise results based upon the leather substrate.
Consumers can expect to see leather products protected by Hydrology in 2007.
