Increased Q2 and first half revenues at Samsonite

Luggage, casual bags, business cases and travel-related products company Samsonite Corporation has reported increased revenues of $498.5 million for the six-month period ended July 31 compared with revenues of $468.9 million during the same in the prior year. Net loss for the first six months of the year was $6.4 million compared with net income of $2.6 million during the prior year period.

For the second quarter of fiscal year 2007, revenues were $257.5 million and net loss was $6 million compared with $236.5 million, $18 million and $1.3 million, respectively, for the second quarter of the prior year.

Chief executive officer Marcello Bottoli, stated: "Sales growth during the quarter was a robust 8.5% on a constant currency basis with solid progress in each major region.”

During the second quarter, the company acquired controlling interests in three companies: a majority-owned joint venture with its Thailand distributor; a majority interest in the operations of its Australian distributor; and a majority interest in premier luxury handbag and shoe designer label Lambertson Truex.
